Period: 1 January 2018 – 31 December 2023. Rates are people killed divided by a fixed Census 2022 resident population, divided by six years, per 100,000. They measure areas relative to their populations; they are not a measure of any individual's risk, of traffic volume or of vehicle-kilometres, and they do not establish why outcomes differed. Cahir–Cashel recorded the highest number of people killed of the five districts — 36.5% of the county's deaths from 26.5% of its population — and a rate 3.03 times the State's. Clonmel's crude rate (8.67) is marginally higher.

The RSA's 1 January 2024 release recorded 16 people killed on Tipperary roads in 2023, the highest county count that year — a count, not a rate (RSA release). Basis note: the State figure of 179 for 2023 in the table above is the sum of people killed in the RSA collision dataset in the RSA collision dataset (2022 onward provisional, mapped by location); the RSA's 1 January 2024 release announced 184 deaths for 2023. The two are different bases and are both given rather than one chosen.
Comparators, stated fairly
- Boyle Municipal District, Roscommon, is higher: 15 killed from a population of 24,421, 10.24 per 100,000, about 19% above Cahir–Cashel. Eleven districts were screened in that targeted comparison, not every district in the State; this page makes no national ranking claim for any district.
- South Tipperary against County Waterford (same source, same method): South Tipperary 7.99 per 100,000; West Waterford (Dungarvan–Lismore) 2.47, ratio 3.23×; the three rural Waterford LEAs 3.20, ratio 2.50×; all six Waterford LEAs including the city 1.83, ratio 4.37× (comparison).
